ONE HEALTH FOOD YOU SHOULD NEVER EAT (UNLESS IT'S ORGANIC)

Soy – we eat a lot of it these days, whether it’s edamame, soy protein, soy milk, or as a condiment.   We as consumers are the ones feeding our families need to be very careful of where it is sourced.

Did you realize that 94% of the United States soy beans are genetically modified?  Which means that unless you are eating organically sourced soy, you are eating soy beans that have been genetically modified so that when the farmers spray the herbicide Roundup (or glyphosate) on them to kill the weeds, the soy will not react to the herbicide and will continue to grow and flourish.  A recent Norwegian study found that there were high levels of this weed killer, glyphosate, in the United States soy crops. (study)

Which translates to the fact that we are eating and feeding our family weed killer….not something we would want to intentionally do, right?

The health problems linked to glyphosate are many including cancer and being linked to ADHD,  alzheimers as well as other health concerns.

So, what can you do to find soy products that are toxin-free?  Read the labels! Purchase organically grown soy products and/or non-GMO products.  Non-GMO basically means that the ingredient in question was not genetically modified in any way.

There are many options in your local health food store and you can even find wonderful organic choices in most grocery stores.

When you are aware of what you are putting in your body and your family’s bodies, you can make thoughtful decisions and may be able to potentially avoid and/or heal many health concerns that are so prevalent in our society today.

5 WAYS COLLAGEN CAN BOOST YOUR HEALTH

5 WAYS COLLAGEN CAN BOOST YOUR HEALTH!

1.  Collagen helps to heal leaky gut.

Collagen soothes your gut lining and helps it to break down proteins.  Collagen is also full of amino acids that help heal the cell walls that have been damaged.

 2. Reduces joint discomfort.

As we loose collagen, our tendons and ligaments start to move with less ease.  This can lead to stiffness and swollen joints.  Collagen allows our joints to move more easily, reduces discomfort often associated with aging and even reduces the risk of joint deterioration.

3.  Increases metabolism and muscle.

Boosting your collagen can help increase your metabolism by adding lean muscle to your frame and help convert essential nutrients.  Glycine, an amino-acid, found in collagen actually converts glucose into energy that feeds muscle cells.  Muscle mass is important as we age because it helps us retain posture, bone health and it burns more calories than fat.

4.  Improves skin hair and nails.

As we age, our bodies production of collagen declines and that is when wrinkles start to set in.  Boosting your intake of collagen can help your skin look firmer, increase smoothness and help your skin cells keep renewing and repairing normally.

5.  Protects your heart.

Proline, an amino acid found in collagen, helps the arteries to release fat build up.  Proline also helps to minimize fat accumulation and helps to control blood pressure.

4 WAYS TO REDUCE YOUR SUGAR INTAKE

We all know that eating less sugar can lead to health benefits, but it can be hard to quit the habit when we are craving it!  Here are some quick tips to help you cut your sugar cravings and sugar intake so you aren’t eating empty calories that just add pounds.

1. Read your food labels! So many times sugar is a hidden ingredient in processed/ready made food & sauces.

2. Eliminate or reduce your sugary drinks/sodas! Water is your best choice to hydrate and if you need flavor, add some citrus!

3. Bring your own snacks! When you get hungry, having some nuts, cheese or a healthy cracker is better than a sugar laden candy bar or even some of the “protein bars” on the market!

4. Slowly reduce your consumption of sugar – going off sugar cold-turkey can be difficult, so weaning yourself slowly off of sugar is the best way to help you make long-term changes!
